Abstract Evolution
Abstract Evolution encompasses Fong Chung-ray’s artistic journey, starting in the 1980s and continuing to the present. Inspired by nature and weathered walls, Fong incorporates textures of trees and stones into his work. His style emphasizes materiality and uses Chinese characters for emotional expression rather than literal meaning. Influenced by bold colors, textures and Buddhist thought, his creative process evolves. His compositions shift from focusing on textures to intricate layers of Chinese characters, conveying cultural identity and abstract philosophy. Recent works delve into deeper spiritual explorations, merging Eastern and Western artistic philosophies to evoke profound contemplation. Buddhist scriptures feature prominently, expressing his views and incorporating philosophical elements. Some pieces convey emotions through poems and scriptures, employing mixed media collage to create symbolism-rich art. Tree bark and stone patterns symbolize nature’s essence and the passage of time, fostering dialogue between past and present. Fong’s art reflects musings on existence and contemplations of life itself.
