Since the Northern Song dynasty, Jingdezhen was renowned for producing white porcelain with a transparent, blue-tinged glaze known as qingbai (bluish-white). During the Yuan dynasty, it remained a popular product in both domestic and overseas markets. According to Tao Zongyi’s Nancun Chuogeng Lu, the Yuan dynasty considered white as an auspicious colour. This was why white porcelain was favoured by the court and used extensively in ceramic wares. The Fuliang Porcelain Bureau, where Jingdezhen was located, was also established to supervise the production of white porcelain for the court. Export wares and Bodhisattva figures were other prominent qingbai wares produced in Jingdezhen.

北宋以來，景德鎮已出產白瓷，施以通透青釉，故名「青白」，聞名於世。時至元朝，青白瓷仍一直暢銷於國內外市場。據陶宗儀《南村輟耕錄》，元朝「國俗尚白，以白為吉」，喜用純白禮服、陶瓷祭器，更在景德鎮所在的浮梁縣設立「浮梁磁局」，監督供宮廷專用的白瓷製作。景德鎮另有生產外銷青白瓷以及佛菩薩像。

The wild goose in flight symbolises their faith and strong will as geese migrate every year for long journey. Ancient Chinese had a romantic belief that wild geese holding a long reed stalk in its beak to protect themselves from being entangled by arrows with ropes.

雁每年南北長途遷徙，象徵信用、志氣，而「雁銜蘆」則是古人浪漫的想像，認為雁機警，銜著蘆葦飛行，當遇上矰繳（帶繩的箭），可以避免被纏住。
